What Does It Mean When A Pitbull Loses Their Hair?
posted on December 22, 2009 at 9:21AM in pitbull-info

Everybody knows that pitbulls with a blue bloodline will have some health problems. They could have airborn allergies and lose hair to having food allergies. Some things you can do are switch their current food, wash their blankets in plain hot water (if they have blankets), if the dog has sensitive skin, use baby shampoo, and maybe even find some home made dog treats that are really easy to make. Feed him 2 cups of food in the morning and the all natural dogs treats throughout the day. Also try to use hydrocortizone cream on the spots which is good for the itching. Hopefully changing one of these will help the hair to grow back thick and fast.

Here is the recipe for some all natural treats.

2 cups whole wheat flour
1 tbls baking powder
1 cup uncooked meat ( example: ground turkey, beef, chicken do not use pork because it will give your dog worms).
1 cup of water

Liquify the meat with the water and add only 1 cup of meat to the whole wheat flour and baking powder.

375 degrees for 20 minutes or until browned

You can also throw in some wheat rice, beets, vegetables ( no corn), garlic which is also good to keep fleas and ticks off your dogs but not too much. To much of anything is bad for your dogs health

Make sure you put in equal parts of veg, meat, and water to add up to one cup.

These healthy treats are great for your dog and it has done wonders for my dog so give it a try and let me know how it works.

For a list of vegetables and fruits your pitbull can eat search on google and you will be amazed what your dog can actually eat besides same old boring kibble.

Why Is My Pit Bull Shaking?
posted on July 15, 2009 at 4:00PM in pitbull-info

If your pitbull is shaking, it could be a few reasons:

  • If you have a pup, or recently got a new pitbull, they could be shaking out of fright. The pup because it is still young and will tend to have moments where it learns a scary lesson. If it is a new pup, then they may be afraid of the environment and will take some getting used to.
  • If your adult pitbull is shaking, there is a good chance that they are sick. You should be able to tell if the temperature is too cold and whether that is the cause. If the temperature is good, you should take your dog to the vet for a visit.

Pitbull Puppy First Shot
posted on July 15, 2009 at 3:42PM in pitbull-info

You should get the 1st set of shots at 8 weeks old (distemper/hepatitis/parainfluenza/parvo combo shot or "DHPP")

The second set at 12 weeks old (another DHPP and possibly his Leptospirosis "Lepto" vaccine, depending where you live.

NOTE: Lepto is a very bad bacteria that is common in places with lots of wildlife (raccoons/deer/etc.) and can be passed on to humans)

At 16 weeks old, he'll get his final set (namely the final DHPP, final Lepto (if needed), and his Rabies vaccine)

After the final set of vaccines, the puppy doesn't need to be boostered for a year. Bordetella can be given at 16 weeks and (I believe) is a one time vaccine that lasts for a year (ask your vet about it). Also, with the Bordetella vaccine, some kennels require it to be given every six months instead of once a year.

Depending when the bordetella is given, ask your vet if any of the vaccines should be separated out by a week or so. Having a ton of vaccines given at once can be a bit much for a dog (usually small breeds, not pits, but you never know).

Also, depending on where you live, Lyme and Rattlesnake vaccines are also available. Lyme is a disease carried by ticks that can attack the joints. Rattlesnake vaccine would be a good choice if you live around them. IT IS NOT AN ANTI-VENOM. It will only delay the severe reaction caused by the venom and give you a bit longer to get help for your pup.

You should also take a poop sample (freshly collected) with you so the vet can run a fecal and check for worms. They routinely worm pups when they come in, but some parasites require a special medicine.

About Blue Nose Pitbulls
posted on May 4, 2009 at 12:08PM in pitbull-info

A blue pitbull is a pitbull is interbred with another species of pitbull to achieve the desired effects such as a blue pitbull. In Ireland many hundreds of years ago, the breeders wouldn’t allow this practice to happen because they kept pedigrees a secret and it was thought of as a highly protected secret. This ties in to blue pitbulls because when the gene pool is relatively small it can increase recessive traits such as blue pitbulls. The blue pitbull is just a dilution of black that looks blue to the human eye and the regular pitbull started getting variety called the blue pitbull. Its imperative to realize having said this that sometimes breeding these dogs to one another for too many generations can cause unknown and known problems and perhaps this is the case of excessive aggression displayed in some blue pitbulls.

How Can I Get a Blue Pitbull and What is the Cost?

A blue pitbull can be extremely hard to locate because they are very rare and in high demand so its not a common thing to find one. Most pitbull breeders, if they have a blue pedigree will constantly try to breed them to produce more but there is no guaranteed equation to make a blue pitbull. The breeders try to have them but due to these reasons it is sometimes a lengthy wait to acquire this rare pet. The general rule of thumb in trying to find a blue pitbull is to put your name on a waiting list and then once they become available you can go and have your pick of the litter.

For a price. Blue pitbulls are extremely expensive and depending on how many dogs were in the litter, and what order of litter picking you are, the price can be even more inflated for first choice, second choice and so on. Blue pitbulls can be upwards of two thousand dollars and usually a down payment is required much like buying a house.
